Quote of the Day

"All the music that ever was still sounds; all the music that is to be still slumbers."  Thomas Surette, Music and Life

What's New

I've recently finished recording Tchaikovsky's 'Album for the Young' - a collection of 24 short piano pieces written to appeal to children. Some are traditional dances, as a Polka and a Mazurka, while others describe things children love, as Hobby-Horse and the Sick Doll. This CD will probably be ready by the end of May, and I will be posting ordering info then. As a teaser, you may listen to some tracks here:

Here's a blank book especially for musicians:

Music Journey Journal

Inside you will find 80 pages of ruled paper, with a pithy music quote at the top of each. This makes a great gift for the musician in your life. Or just simply buy it for yourself!

I have just begun arranging Mendelssohn's Notturno, from Midsummer Night's Dream, for five pianos, at the suggestion of  Richard Capp, who directs the five piano event every February at First Presbyterian Church in Boulder, CO. The Notturno is a very calming, soothing piece. If you have a 5 piano team, check back in a few weeks. It will probably take a month or a little more to get that done. Lots of hours sitting at the computer! Please excuse that mess on my desk. When I get started on a project, I get so focused on it that the house may fall down and I wouldn't notice!Papers pile up and I hardly see them. It's probably a pretty sick way to work, but whatever... Pat at computer composing or arranging

My five piano arrangement of the first movement of Beethoven's Fifth Symphony and also a Gospel Medley I wrote were both performed - on March 30, 2017 - at the Southwestern Adventist University in Keene, Texas. I was very happy to hear reports are that they were well-received.

I will be arranging some spirituals in medley form for our 5-Piano ('Pianos Alive') concert for 2018 at First Presbyterian Church in Boulder, CO. Devon Howard, Director of Theory and Keyboard Studies at Southwestern Adventist University will also be performing this arrangement at a later date.

Current project: composing a musical setting of some poetry written by a friend. It's a pure joy to try to find just the right notes to go with his wonderful words.
