Lord God of the Heavens Above

SSA -

This is a short, melodic piece with words adapted from Psalm 139. It has a nice, flowing piano accompaniment.

SATB with 4 hands at one piano

a soft rock beat provides the backdrop for simple words about the symbiotic relationship between music makers and music. Great fun for high school choirs.

Sing About Love

for SSATB acappella

This is a perfect piece to use for Valentine's Day.  . The lyrics are rather zany, and it's important to get those across clearly. I believe it works best with a small ensemble, though it could be done by a larger group. It was initially done with only one voice for each part. It has close, jazz harmonies, and upbeat jazz rhythms.

Sing We and Chant It

SATB with flute

This piece is new music with a jazzy feel and text from an old 16th century madrigal. As the piece progresses, the fa-la-las are mixed in with some jazz scatting syllables. Sort of a fun, novelty piece.

(by Johnny Mercer)

My guess is that this song was played at every high school prom in the USA after it was written in 1945 and for about the next 10 years. Frank Sinatra's recording of it helped put it front and center of popular songs of the day.
